In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the 1776 United States Declaration of Independence, we are reaching out to you to request if would like to participate in a community effort to celebrate the Semiquincentennial.

Florissant Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4105, The Friends of Veterans, Historic Florissant, Inc., Councilman Tom O’Donnell and T-K Signs, Inc. are collaborating to create historical markers which, with Mayor Lowery’s support, will be placed in strategic locations throughout the city.

Durable, weather proof signs with cast iron posts, will portray historic events and sites which are a part of our local history. For example, a marker placed at the corner of St. Francois and St. Jacques may read, “On this corner stood the St. Ferdinand Milling Company. It was operated by Sidney Garrett and Charles Griese. It opened in 1897 and manufactured stone ground corn meal. Attached to the same building was the Florisant Post Office. In 1818, Florissant was often spelled with one “s”.

In addition, a brochure, free to the public, will include a map to the historic markers, names of sponsors, and a QRC. Once scanned, the QRC will direct visitors to photos, additional information regarding the sites, and local business sponsors.

The goal of historical markers include:

  • educate the public
  • increase tourism
  • create walking traffic throughout the historic district and surrounding areas
  • advertise local businesses

T-K Signs, Inc.; a local family business, will produce signs to be installed in approximately 20 different locations near sidewalks and streets.

The purpose of this letter is to request sponsorship from local businesses. The full cost of each marker is $1,400. Sponsorship levels include:

  • Gold Level – Full Sponsorship
    • Choice of historic marker
    • Business name and logo permanently printed on the marker
    • Acknowledgement on website as Gold Sponsor Donor
    • Hyperlink to your business website
  • Silver Level – Shared Sponsorship $501 or more
    • Acknowledgement on website as Silver Level Donor
    • Hyperlink to your business website
  • Bronze Level – Shared Sponsorship $500 or less
    • Acknowledgement on website as Bronze Level Donor

We hope you are excited about this opportunity! What better way to contribute to the Semiquincentennial than providing for historic markers all will enjoy for years to come.
